Concern Worldwide was founded in 1968 to meet the needs of people living in extreme poverty, for whom every day is a fight for survival. Concern is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Today, our staff of 3,200 work in 25 countries across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean focused on livelihoods, education, health, HIV and AIDS, and emergency relief.
Our mission is to help people living in extreme poverty achieve major improvements in their lives—improvements they can sustain without ongoing support. In 2011, our programs reached more than 8.5 million people. Based in New York City with an office in Chicago, we are one of the most financially efficient charities operating in the United States today with 94 cents of every dollar going straight to programs. Because of this, we receive the highest of charity accolades, including a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
